Pretty important info here!
IF YOU STILL CAN AFFORD TO DRIVE..PAY ATTENTION: VALUABLE INFO WHEN BUYING YOUR
NEXT SET OF TIRES!!
Great stuff -- if you read nothing else, you should memorize that part about
where your tire's manufacture date is written.
Back when Robin & I were using an old Chevy van in our construction business, we
bought a set of brand new tires at a big tire specialty place in Arlington, and
one of them blew -- for no apparent reason -- on the way to Florida a few weeks
later.
While it was up on the rack, the bright little guy that was replacing the tire
noticed that these "new" tires were made about ten years ago and had been
sitting on the shelf ever since, apparently. Not surprising they went quickly
since they were dry-rotted on the inside. I'd been fiddling with cars for
twenty years at that point, even working in garages, and had no idea there was a
date code on tires.
I had forgotten that until I saw this thing. Even if all you remember is that
the last two digits on the tire are the year it was made .....
Some of these tire places don't "rotate their stock." Don't get stuck like we
did!
